Description1

The Bábolna Tetra was developed at the Bábolna State Farm using prolific breeds, Finnish Landrace and Romanov. It is a Hungarian breed kept in a small population.

It comes into heat and breeds in every season and can produce 1.7–1.8 lambs per lambing; its high prolificacy calls for a special lambing management. The breeding goal is to improve prolificacy and lamb-rearing ability while avoiding inbreeding: ewes that give birth to single lambs three times in a row must be culled.

A finely built yet powerful sheep of robust constitution, polled in both sexes. The body is long and cylindrical with fine bone; the fleece is uniformly white and lightly interspersed with outer hairs. The tail is short, 18–25 cm; the udder is well developed and well attached.
