Description1

Bred in Kent and Sussex, England, since the 13th century. A strongly seasonal longwool breed that performs well under extensive conditions, copes well with the Hungarian climate and suits free-range keeping.

Its special hoof structure makes it resistant to lameness, and it needs no hoof trimming. Lambing is easy with a lambing rate of 1.3–1.7; ewes weigh 50–70 kg and rams 80–100 kg.

A medium-sized, white-faced, well-muscled dual-purpose breed, polled in both sexes. The head is moderately woolled, the nose and hooves coal-black or slate-grey, with shiny white hair on the face and lower legs. The wool is white and lustrous, 30–40 microns.
