Description1

A meat goat breed from South Africa. It is a large, muscular animal whose whole appearance speaks of meat production. It has excellent conformation and tasty, lean meat; it grows fast, dresses out above 50%, and passes its traits on well in crossbreeding.

Pasture-based keeping is recommended. It has a calm temperament, an aseasonal breeding cycle (more intense from August to January) and very good maternal traits. First breeding is at 10–12 months; its milk yield is not negligible either, as the kids' fast growth needs plenty of milk.

The coat is short and white with a red neck and head – from light to dark shades, including orange, brown and reddish black. Both sexes are horned; typical are long pendulous ears whose tips curl up in adults. The nose is arched, the chest well developed, the thighs full, and the wide, long pelvis makes kidding easy.

Breed standard and breed society

The official breed description, breeding goal and herdbook rules are published by the recognised breed society (MJKSZ).
